Second caldarium, with large central bath and window overlooking the sea. Looking east.
According to Wallace-Hadrill, the original Baths were built with the standard areas of entrance hall, followed by cold, warm and hot rooms.
This original Caldarium was small and intimate.
Then a second Caldarium was added, with its own furnace operating by direct heating immediately under the bronze “samovar” in the middle of the pool.
It offered an area of warm water big enough for up to twenty to swim in.
