Herculaneum V.30, Casa dell’ Atrio Corinzio or House of the Corinthian Atrium.

Excavated 1933-34.

Plan

This is the only house, so far excavated at Herculaneum, with a type of Corinthian atrium, that is to say with more than four columns placed around the impluvium, and this set into a central garden.  An upper floor was probably above all the rooms on the south side, with the stairs leading up within room 9.

See Pesando, F. & Giuidobaldi, M.P. (2006). Pompei Oplontis Ercolano Stabiae. Rome, Laterza, (p.356))

Just once, (in Herculaneum), inside a private house, that of the Corinthian Atrium, we find an advertisement for the ten pairs of gladiators of Numisius Genialis that will fight in Herculaneum on 22nd February.

See Wallace-Hadrill, A. (2011). Herculaneum, Past and Future. London, Frances Lincoln Ltd., (p.210-11,297)??????

According to Maiuri, outside the doorway of V,30 was a little portico along the roadway, and by a stretch of better pavement adorned with marble.
