Ins. Orientalis I.2, Herculaneum. Bas-relief of Orestes consulting the oracle of Apollo at Delphi.
The house has also at times been referred to as the House of the bas-relief of Orestes.
Ruesch describes it as Oreste at Delphi sitting on the altar in a
side profile looking towards the right, with sword in hand, a motif often used
for Diomede.
At his side is the tripod with a laurel tree.
Above a column is a statue of Apollo, type of the 5th century BC.
On the ground, right, is one of the Eumenides sleeping.
Now in Naples Archaeological Museum. Inventory number 6689.
