Herculaneum Ins. Or. II.11. Dye house. Tinctoria.

According to Maiuri, this was a dye-house with a furnace.

See Maiuri, Amedeo, (1977). Herculaneum. 7th English ed, of Guide books to the Museums Galleries and Monuments of Italy, No.53 (p.57).

According to Wallace-Hadrill, the interconnected shop at number 11, is shown by its vats to be another tinctoria.

Near the north wall, centre left, are the remains of the vats/equipment used in the dye-house.

The discovery of two dolia embedded as furnaces into a masonry podium with a small staircase at one side, led to the belief that this building was a dye-house.
