According to Maiuri – “The staircase to access the upper floor apartment was reached in the room that was at the rear of the shop/caupona, and on the south side of the atrium. The stairs, and by a ramp, reached the cubiculum painted in red above the lower floor cubiculum, also on the south side of the atrium, and from there, by a gallery, gave access to the room above the shop/caupona.

The apartment on the street front was divided into two parts, communicating by means of the gallery: a single large room, occupying the entire area of the shop/caupona and of the entrance corridor/fauces, which was later divided to obtain a small kitchen, latrine, a hallway/corridor, a comfortable and large bedroom, and two other smaller rooms, of which one is well decorated, and are over the two small rooms on the lower floor, to the left of the fauces.”
