According to Jashemski – “Flanking the pergola (room 18) there were two small gardens.
On the far side of each little garden there was an elegant room for repose with a window or door looking into the garden, another window looking out onto the sea.
The statuettes of the boy Eros may have decorated these rooms and have been swept below by the torrent of mud that overwhelmed Herculaneum.”
See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. (p.265)
(Note: copies of the statuette of the boy Eros now decorate the tomb of Nonius Balbus on the terrace of the Suburban Baths).
