VI.1/7, Herculaneum. May 2010. Doorway leading into the vestibule of the cold room, or frigidarium.
On the left (west side) of the apodyterium in the north-west corner is a doorway leading to the small square vestibule of the frigidarium.
According to Maiuri, the frigidarium was painted marine blue, with red walls broken by four deep yellow niches and a domed ceiling (with a skylight) upon which is painted a fish-pond on a bluish background.
According to Guidobaldi, the water from the frigidarium would have been used to clean the latrine on its south side, at entrance VI.31.
