V.7 Herculaneum. May 2006. Triclinium in small courtyard.

According to Jashemski, the sides of the couches and the floor between them was paved with white marble.

Between the couches was an elegant little column ornamented with ivy leaves and berries, which would have held the fountain pipe.

Maiuri believed it would have once held the bowl of a fountain.

See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. (p.268)

According to Jashemski, the courtyard at the rear of the house, originally decorated with garden paintings, was made into a beautiful nymphaeum. It also served as a garden with summer triclinium. The mosaic panel of Neptune and Amphitrite was visible from the entrance corridor.
